Our Doctrinal Statement
1. We believe that the Old and New Testament scriptures, in the original documents, are the verbally inspired, inerrant word of God, that, as such, they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life, and that in them are revealed the following doctrines (Ps. 12:6; 119:9-11, 105; Prov. 30:5; II Tim. 3:16; II Pet. 1:19-21).
2. We believe that God is personal and one, existing and manifesting himself in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-equal and co-eternal—three in one (Is. 48:16; 63:10; Matt. 22:41-46; Matt. 28:19; John 1:1-3; II Cor. 13:14; I John 5:6-8).
We believe that God the Father created and upholds all of Heaven and Earth, that by his eternal counsel and providence he likewise upholds and governs the people he has redeemed, and that they, through Christ, find in him their heavenly Father (Gen. 1; Is. 63:16; Matt. 11:25-27; Rom. 8:15).
We believe that God the Son is Jesus Christ, who, in human flesh, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and fully God and fully man, was sent into the world by God the Father to redeem his human creation from sin and to reconcile them to himself (Matt. 1:18; John 1:1-4, 14; 3:16; Rom. 1:3-4; Phil. 2:5-9; Col. 1:15-20).
We believe that God the Holy Spirit glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ, convicts the world of its sin and guilt, and is a comforting and abiding presence as he indwells, illuminates, guides, equips, and empowers believers in Christ-like living and service (John 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:7-11; Rom. 8:1-11; I Cor. 12:11; Gal. 5:16-26).
3. We believe that Satan is a real and personal spiritual adversary who continuously opposes the work of God with all his powers and that he will be cast into the lake of fire in the final and complete triumph of Christ (Job 1:6-7; Matt. 4:1; Eph. 6:10-19; I Pet. 5:8; Rev. 20:10).
4. We believe that man was originally created good and upright, in the image and likeness of God, but by voluntary disobedience fell from his created state and that all mankind inherits that fallen condition, being subject to the power of Satan and being dead in trespasses and sin, the just penalty for which is death (Gen. 1:26-31; 2:17; 3:1-24; Rom. 3:23; 5:12; 6:23).
5. We believe that to be reconciled to the Creator and redeemed from that sinful state, each person must trust and testify that Jesus Christ, as God in the flesh, died on the cross, shedding his blood in their place to pay the penalty for their sin and, further, that such reconciliation, redemption, and eternal life with God is afforded to each person in no other way but by the grace of God through personal and individual faith in Christ and his atoning work on the cross (John 3:16; Rom. 5:1-3; 6:23; 10:9; II Cor. 5:18-21; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-9; I Pet. 1:18-21; 3:18).
6. We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ was raised bodily from the dead and that his resurrection demonstrates the efficacy of his power, through his crucifixion, over sin and death and assures believers of their own bodily resurrection (Luke 24:1-7; Rom. 1:4; I Cor. 15:20-22).
7. We believe that Christ ascended bodily into Heaven to be the high priest and advocate for the members of his holy body, the church, and that he will return personally and visibly (Acts 1:9-11; Rom. 8:34; I Thess. 4:16; I Pet. 1:3-5).
8. We believe that all people will be resurrected bodily at the final judgment: believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to abide with him in glory forever; and unbelievers to be cast into the fire of everlasting conscious punishment (I Cor. 15:20-23; I Thess. 4:16-17; II Thess. 1:7b-10; Rev. 20:11-15).
9. We believe that all the redeemed are called to be saints of God, growing in sanctification as they abide in Christ and walk in the Spirit, striving to live in such a manner so as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord, and separating themselves from sinful practices, pleasures, and associations (John 15:1-21; Rom. 2:24; 8:1-11; 12:1-2; I Cor. 1:2; II Cor. 6:1-7:1; Gal. 5:16-24; I Tim. 6:14; II Tim. 3:1-5; I Peter 1:13-16; II Pet. 2:2; I John 2:15-16).
10. We believe that it is the obligation of the saved, by word and deed, to testify to the truths of Holy Scripture and to proclaim the Gospel to all mankind (Matt. 10:32; Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; I Pet. 3:15).
11. We believe that the church—the body of Christ, who is its head and shepherd—consists of all believers, who must sustain it with their prayers, their spiritual gifts, and their faithful attendance so that they and others may hear the word of God, offer corporate prayer and worship to God, be encouraged in their faith in God, and bring the love of God to a lost world (Rom. 12:4-13; I Cor. 12:4-31; Eph. 6:18; Phil. 4:16; Heb. 10:24-25).
12. We believe that two ordinances are commanded by Christ: baptism (Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38-41; Gal. 3:26-27; Col. 2:12; I Pet. 3:20-21) and the Lord’s Supper (Luke 22:19-20; I Cor. 11:23-26).
